U.S. Space Force

Established on 20 December 2019, America's newest military branch is the U.S. Space Force. Space Force Guardians currently serve on Active duty under the Department of the Air Force. Guardians protect and defend our nation in and from the space domain by providing space support to our Combatant Commanders.

U.S. ARMY

Established on 14 June 1775, the U.S. Army is the oldest branch of the military. Soldiers serve as Active, Guard or Reserve forces. The Army was essential to gaining America's independence during the Revolutionary War and has been involved in every major conflict in our nation's history.

U.S. MARINES

Established on 10 November 1775, the U.S. Marine Corps operates under the Department of the Navy. Marines serve in both Active and Reserve components, and typically serve on shore and aboard ships around the world to provide rapid response to crisis. Their unique air, land and sea capabilities make Marines the"First to Fight" in crisis.

U.S. NAVY

Established on 13 October 1775, the U.S. Navy projects American power globally by dominating the maritime domain. Sailers serve in Active or Reserve components. The Navy operates under, on and over the seas to fulfill its global power projection mission.

U.S. AIR FORCE

Established on 18 September 1947, the U.S. Air Force provides global vigilance, power, and reach to help defend our nation and deter aggression worldwide. Airmen serve in Active, Guard or Reserve components. The Air Force and predecessor organizations dating back to the early 20th Century have fought in every war since World War I.

NATIONAL GUARD

Established on 13 December 1636, America's National Guard is comprised of our nation's part time citizen service members and is not a separate military service. National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are integral to defending our homeland as well as supporting disaster relief, reconstruction efforts and overseas peacekeeping and combat missions.

U.S. COAST GUARD

Established on 4 August 1790, the U.S. Coast Guard serves under the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime and the Department of the Navy in wartime. As both a military branch and federal law enforcement agency, the Coast Guard protects our waterways, ports, and coastlines.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: 
  
1) The 2025 Veterans Dinner will be held on Thursday 13 November at VW Post 4795.  It is sponsored by Windber Moose 349, Windber American Legion Post 137 and Windber VFW Post 4795.  Please sign up at the Post if you plan to attend.
 
2) Veterans' Community Initiative (VCI) and The Salvation Army are hosting the annual Veterans' Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday 20 November at the Richland Township Fire Department Banquet Hall at 1321 Scalp Avenue, Johnstown, starting at noon, and the doors will be opened at 11 a.m.  TO ATTEND YOU MUST RSVP BY 7 NOVEMBER by calling VCI at 814-255-0355.
 
NOVEMBER 2025 ENTERTAINMENT EVENTS:

Bar Bingo will be held on Monday 17 November from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
 
Our 3rd annual Post Meat Raffle will be held on Saturday 22 November from 1 to 4 p.m.   See flyer below for details!
 
 
Stephanie and the Wildhearts will entertain on Saturday 22 November from 8 to 11 p.m.
 
Frequency will entertain on Wednesday 26 November (Thanksgiving Eve) from 8 to 11 p.m.  
 
PLEASE NOTE that the Post will open at 5 p.m. instead of noon on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday 27 November.  
 
DJ Heidi will entertain on Saturday 29 November from 8 p.m. to midnight.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA 2025 IN WINDBER
 
Our Post Auxiliary is assisting with the local "Wreaths Across America" program and we encourage everyone to purchase wreaths to place on veteran's graves in Windber before Christmas each year.  More information is posted on our VFW Post bulletin boards or contact Lory Borischak at 814-659-5050.  Here's the online internet link to easily purchase wreaths for 2025 to honor veterans buried in Windber cemeteries (NOTE:  DO NOT purchase wreaths without ensuring you purchase the wreaths that support the VFW Post 4795 Auxiliary in Windber by using the link below!):
